We are so thrilled about the candidacy of Vice President Kamala Harris, the first Black woman to win the democratic nomination, and her running mate announced last night, Minnesota governor Tim Walz. God Bless President Joe Biden, for making history by stepping down, just like the first American president, George Washington. Let’s move the country FORWARD.
But first, a look backwards—a year ago this week, was what I am calling TARU—The Alabama Riverboat Uprising. And while I don’t condone violence, I DO respect self-defense.
I think that African Americans, indeed all Americans, should remember this day as a victory for justice in our land. Perhaps it could be celebrated on the first Saturday in August, with swim races and hat tosses, and we would all sit in folding chairs. Because that day, Black fought back against racism, and WON. That deserves to be remembered.
I hope all those involved in that triumph of citizen justice, are doing well today.
And I hope you are enjoying your August.
Personally, I am bringing my two children to college! They have both chosen HBCU’s and I couldn’t be prouder.
Happy TARU to us all. And YES to the Black Women Saving Democracy!
