Happy Kwanzaa!

Kwanzaa is a beautiful 7 day holiday that origially was unique to African Americans, although in its almost 60 years history (next year will be the 60th anniversary of its creation) it has become a Pan-African holiday celebrated all over the world. Kwanzaa was first celebrated in 1966, the brainchild of Dr. Maulana Karenga, in response to the uprising in Watts, California, during the summer of 1965. The holiday acknowledges and celebrates the qualities of the African Diaspora using words from the East African language of Kiswahili.
