All Hallows Eve…! Monsters, goblins and ghosts…and fears of getting started with investing.
I get it. The market CAN be scary. There’s so much information out there, volatility is disturbing, and it’s hard to know whom to trust.
But the really scary thing is NOT getting started and having longer term consequences of avoiding learning about investing—like not being ready for retirement, losing purchasing power, or being unprepared for the unexpected.
The 12 steps of the MGB Investing Starter Kit are designed to help to alleviate the fear, by helping a first time investor take steps like having an emergency fund, and beginning to pay down debt, before getting started with investing.
Optional Exercise:
If you have an investment account, just take a moment now look and see how it’s doing, if you don’t already know. If you can’t remember the login, just call customer service with your ID, and they will likely find a way to give you access.
The market is currently at an all-time high. So you might be pleasantly surprised by what you find! And if not, it’s also better just to know what’s going on.
If you haven’t gotten started with investing yet, grab your money journal, or a piece of paper and pen, and just ask yourself, ‘what am I afraid of?’
Set a timer for 5 minutes, and write about that topic. When you’re done, read it to yourself. You might be surprised by what you learn.
