Meditation on the Fourth of July

Happy Independence Day. Here at MGB, we adhere to the thesis of the 1619 project, that our country was really born when the first kidnapped and enslaved Africans stepped onto the soil.
"In August of 1619, a ship appeared on this horizon, near Point Comfort, a coastal port in the English colony of Virginia. It carried more than 20 enslaved Africans, who were sold to the colonists. No aspect of the country that would be formed here has been untouched by the years of slavery that followed. On the 400th anniversary of this fateful moment, it is finally time to tell our story truthfully."
The 1619 Project was created by Pulitzer Prize -winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones.
Today, despite what is happening in the country, we can take a minute to meditate on Freedom, whatever that means in this current climate.
Below is a link to a re-recording of a portion of this month's MGB Money Study Hall, narrated for you by Leslie Lewis, in honor of America's Birthday, including an excerpt from NPR's "What to the Slave is the fourth of July?" by Frederick Douglass, read by four of his descendants.
