Happy TG!

Thanksgiving is a quirky holiday in this country. In many ways, it’s a lovely excuse to get together with family and friends, to celebrate thankfulness, to eat some good food and maybe watch (or play!) some football. Two days off. The unofficial start to the holiday season. Black Friday.
B U T it is also a reminder of the founding of this country by the theft of indigenous land and genocide… colonialism just isn’t a cute look anymore.
So, this season, we celebrate the good while not pretending the bad doesn’t exist. It’s okay for both things to be true. Life can be complex.
Here at MGB we teach about investing in the stock market, which is an undeniably capitalist endeavor. Yet we also acknowledge that capitalism has harmed Black and Brown people (and honestly, white people too, although many don’t seem really to know it).
The way we look at it here is: we are using one of the tools of capitalism—Stock Market Investing—to solve one of the ills of capitalism, wealth inequality—by teaching a process for creating financial empowerment, to people of the global majority.
So, though I love that Audre Lorde wrote “The Master’s Tools Will Never Dismantle The Master’s House,” I think that economic freedom might be one exception to that idea.
Because when people have financial stability, it creates more space for creativity, hope and activism.
For that, I am very grateful.
A happy holiday to you and yours.
