Investment banking is basically financial advising for corporations, according to this article on the investing education website called Investopedia (which, by the way, is a great resource for anyone starting out with investing!) I-Banks (as they are sometimes called for short, pronounced 'eye-banks' ) help companies raise money.
In this post about IPO's, I mentioned that investment bankers are usually the ones who help a company 'go public,' to become a publicly traded stock.
Some of the best known investment banks are Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Citigroup. Incidentally, these are all big companies that are also publicly traded stocks that you can start to follow, if you're interested.
Do you know any investment bankers? What have you heard about this profession?
Let me know in the comments! And as always, thanks for reading this.
